social Services

Making the decision to move into a new home is difficult for both the resident and the family involved. Placement maybe temporary or indefinite, but either way a sense of loss and adjustment is faced by the resident and their family. The Social Workers within the Facility are prepared to assist with this adjustment, as well as monitor and assist throughout the residents stay here for psychological and psychosocial needs.

The facility has two trained professionals, Betsy Bielski MSW and Mike Senters BSW. Our Social Service Department works closely with Mental Health Services, Home Health, Hospice, and other various community resources to guarantee the highest quality of life for the residents, whether they make the facility their permanent home or return to independent living. Acting as a liaison between the family, the resident and the facility, the social worker will often help with resident advance directive, issues, concerns or educating the family in regards to medical issues.

Recreational Activities

There are a variety of ways in which our Activities Supervisor Bonnie Harthun and her staff provide the residents with much needed assistance. Times spent in reading or writing letters for the residents; facilitating religious services; passing out newspapers; going on outings in the community; helping with bingo or other group games or entertainment; taking residents outside in the nice weather, are all examples of ways that and our staff can provide assistance to support our residence Manistee Medical Care.

Dietary

The Dietary Department is headed by a Ginny Lindeman, Certified Dietary Manager. We have a Registered Dietitian who consults at the facility each month to address any dietary concerns that arise

The dietary department is responsible for serving three nutritious meals plus nourishments for our residents on a daily basis. Nourishing snacks are provided to those residents who desire them. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable, home like dining experience for our residents while meeting their nutritional needs.

Plant Operations

Behind the scenes many very important departments work daily to insure the Manistee County Medical Care Facility runs in a safe and clean environment. Plant Operations which includes Laundry, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Storeroom and Information Technology is constantly looking for ways to improve the facility. This dedicated group under the direction of John Taylor strives to make the MCMCF a place for our residents to feel at home in.

The Chapel

Our beautiful Chapel is located just off of the Main Lobby. It offers a quiet place for reflection and prayer or an escape from the sometimes hectic pace of the facility. It is a space set aside for meditation and contemplation, and even celebration or mourning. It is open to persons of all faith traditions.

The Chapel seats 24 with additional seats available, and is available for memorial services, weddings and baptisms.

Alzheimer's Support Group

The effects on the families of residents with Alzheimer’s Disease is quite often difficult to deal with. In order to assist these families, MCMCF sponsors the Alzheimer’s Association Support Group that meets at the Facility the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm.  During these meetings, the Group is provided with the latest information on Alzheimer’s Disease, Lewy Body dementia and other dementias.  The support group members are all given an opportunity to discuss how their family member is doing, how the care giver is doing and any other issues facing either the resident or family.  Through interactive discussion the Group lends support and aids in solving these problems.  Also available is an extensive library on Alzheimer's related information.  The members often comment on the positive difference this interaction makes in their coping with these terrible diseases.  The Facilitator is Mike Senters, BSW, social worker at the Manistee Medical Care Facility. There is no charge for this service.

Physical Therapy

A full rehabilitation and physical therapy program is available for all residents.  Please visit our Rehabilitation page for further details.  REABILITATION
